A former police officer who was injured in a head-on car crash whilst responding to an emergency situation is seeking £500,000 in compensation.
Jocelyn Lyons was a probationary policewoman in the Kent force when she was involved in the accident in Minster, Kent back in July 2002. She was the front-seat passenger in a patrol car that was responding to an emergency call. It had sirens on and blue flashing lights, as it made its way through traffic. Unfortunately, the car was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle.
Miss Lyons suffered numerous injuries in the accident, including back, chest and neck injuries. She also suffered a shoulder injury which she still suffers with to this day, leaving her unable to lift her arm above her head. However, the worst impact on Miss Lyons was post-traumatic stress disorder that ruined her police career and from which she still suffers today. She has been retired from the police force on medical grounds.
The Sheppey Gazette is reporting that Miss Lyons is seeking compensation for her injuries, and her case is being heard at the High Court in London where she is seeking damages of over £500,000.
