A Polish lorry driver who caused a multi-vehicle pile up on the M25 last week has been banned from driving in the United Kingdom for 3 months and fined £100.
The crashed occurred at around 17:00hrs on January 5th 2012 between junctions 10 and 11. A man was trapped in his car for an hour and had to be taken to hospital with pelvic injuries.
The driver, Eugeniusz Michalski, 42 and who drives in the UK for Polish company Maxtrans, appeared at Guildford Magistrates' Court on Friday morning to hear his sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of careless driving.
Moses Koroma, prosecuting, said: "He collided with a number of vehicles which in turn collided with vehicles ahead and in front of them.
"The motorway was closed for three hours - one of the occupants of the other vehicle was trapped for one hour and suffered a broken pelvis.
"Police considered the visibility was good, surface was dry, with ample street lighting, and could see no facts that should have prevented Mr Michalski from stopping his vehicle.
The defendant, who had arrived in the UK on Wednesday and was driving from Bristol, said: "Well, all I can really say is I am very, very sorry about what happened - I am a professional driver and this should not have happened, your worships”.
The drivers and passengers of any of the vehicle involved in the collision will be able to sue Mr Michalski’s insurers for personal injury compensation under the international Green Car Scheme. If you would like any information on how to make a claim, call us today on 0800 612 7445.
